Today was one of ‘those’ mornings. I woke up in plenty of time to be at the office but some how still managed to go in late. Some days I seriously stand and just stare blankly at all of my clean clothes tossed on the floor and…. nothing. Still blank. I would love to know how much of my life is spent meditating on how or what I am going to put on to my body. With day old hair and time evaporating I went for the old top bun but then had a change of heart. Since I shaved my head back in June I have wondered if I could fastened the milk maid braids around my head. Apparently in my groggy haze I decided today would be the day I tried. After pinning 3 of the 4 braids around my head I loved how the fourth one hung down. So there it lay and I was off to the races.  20131113-215732.jpg

So cheers to trying new things and never ever washing your hair.

You might be thinking, “No shit Sherlock” but its a real problem for a girl like me. Living in Chattanooga these last 7 years I absolutely love our seasons here.

I do however have a hard time transitioning through the seasons. When fall comes I LOVE layering but I often find I am cold in the evenings and burning up during the day. It takes me a minute to get into the swing of things! Then when our winter hits it takes me a few weeks to really get used to bundling up. When the cold weather starts to get warm I have a hard time ditching my layers. It seems once I get the hang of dressing for 100 degree weather it changes again.

I knew Chicago would be freezing even it was moderate because I am a total wimp. So rather than pack a bunch of awesome outfits and really indulge in the big city swank I know I have deep inside. I opted to be warm. That means a bag full of my warmest dark clothing. I spent 4 days just wearing everything I brought. Fine by me y’all.

Katelynd being a seasoned pro seems to look cute and dress warm… I felt more like a ball of fabric.

IMG_7366  Coat by H&M, Sweater from Fredonia, blouse from America’s Thrift, very thick amazing leggings from Target’s work out section ($40 leggings are no joke), wool socks, my scarf is from River Street Apparel, necklace from Nasty Gal and Katelynd’s old Steve Madden boots. She warned me they had a hole in them but I really didn’t notice it until we started taking pictures. So I was essentially wearing socks with sandals. Oh yes! And my camera bag worked great for the city. I carried my camera body, 24 mm lens, wallet, phone and some extras around with me! Its made by THEIT and I am in love with it.  IMG_7367 IMG_7377 IMG_7381 IMG_7382 IMG_7384 IMG_7385 IMG_7388 IMG_7390 IMG_7391 IMG_7399 IMG_7404 IMG_7413 IMG_7414 IMG_7415  Chicago did me well because it holds my heart but all you divas dying for the big city are totally nuts in my opinion!

Cheers to transitions no matter how awkward they may be.

Melinda Taylor - DYING over that floral. Where did you get that glorious thing?

Ladies its time to start passing out the compliments! I often have a hard time receiving them, I tend to just blow the person off because I don’t know what to do with the positive attention. Even though the compliment sticks with me!  I think there is room in the world for a little more positive reinforcement!

I love my job. Already this year I have shot 24 weddings and dozens of other shoots. I love being in the moment, working with people, finding the light, being creative in the moment and creating beautiful images that will be treasured for generations.

You may have caught on that I am kind of a dress girl… dresses, skirts, anything ultra femme is right up my alley. When shooting however I have to wear pants because of the style in which I shoot. I often find myself climbing on furniture, laying on the ground, crouching behind things and generally just unaware of my body. Though I have now mastered the matchstick colored crop pant I still love dresses.

When traveling home to shoot an old friends wedding I got hung up on the idea of wearing a black longer dress so that I could look and feel hott while still being able to keep my goodies covered! On my drive from Chattanooga to Louisville I stopped off at the new H&M in Nashville. There I found the perfect dress. Its a midi, black, has sleeves and a higher neckline (my boobs often spill out of things… Just makes me feel really unprofessional).

Then on Friday my mom took me to St. James art fair in old Louisville. There I came across a leather worker from NYC who was selling these leather fanny pouches! He only had one with two pockets but it was perfect. It fits my lenses so now I can carry 3 lenses on my person at all times! Rather than carrying my big gear bag around the whole day.

IMG_8405 IMG_8434IMG_8411 IMG_8426IMG_8436 IMG_8430 IMG_8417 IMG_8416 IMG_8429IMG_8414Add statement necklace from Etsy and peter pan booties from DSW and BOOM! I felt good and could do my job. I am strong believer that feeling good allows me to do a better job. Feeling confident always opens doors.

What’s your power outfit?

Penny Leal - those shoes tho. …and everything else too!

Molly Mallory Richards - THE hottest fanny pack ever! Nice.

Sarah Becker Lillard - LOVE the holster, the dress, everything!

Christy Huie - Gah, Love your outfit!

Beth Colston Cox - Luv your new digs !!!

This year for Dress Up Christmas Katelynd and I had planned to be spending our favorite holiday apart. With this sadness in our hearts we decided that even while apart we would do a couples costume. In a heart broken stupor just a week before I bought a  ticket to Chicago to take part in the blessed celebration with my love. Originally we discussed being peas and carrots since K is obsessed with @realcarrotfacts on Twitter. Yes, its a real thing and yes she is actually overwhelmed with joy by the account.

Something about the costume just wasn’t settling with me and while discussing this with my dear friend Casey Yo I blurted out…. We have to be something no one understands, something we have to explain… like two halves of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting or something!! Welp there it was. Born in a manger of glory.

If you aren’t familiar with O’Keeffe’s work you should poke around on the interwebs. She made huge paintings of flower blossoms very up close. Like they were under a magnifying glass. Many people thought the paintings represented vaginas and though they were celebrations of sensual forces and ecstasy of nature itself, they were not meant to be vaginas.

For SWIA purposes Katelynd and I were happy to just say we were vagina paintings for Dress Up Christmas this year. Nothing as fun as wearing a clitoris on your head and wrapping your body with a some labia minoras.
